What are Heffle up to in 2023?
24th January 2023:
Scams are a modern day menace, whether by post email, phone or doorstep. With WI Adviser Lee Ede, we'll learn more about current scams and find out how to protect ourselves, our friends and family.
28th February 2023:
While running a local turkey farm with husband James, Lucy Robson took part in the 2022 Britain's Fittest Farmer Awards competition which included tipping a tractor tyre and lifting weights. Lucy is passionate about the importance of fitness and the importance of wellbeing in the farming community.
28th March 2023:
Heathfield is lucky to have life saving defibrillators around the town, but do you know how to operate them? We will have an interactive demonstration showing how they work, CPR skills and the important information required when making a 999 call. Our resident Paramedic, Sue, will be leading the session.
25th April 2023:
Due to an unforeseen change of circumstances the Pilates 'have a go' session will be re-arranged at a later date. Instead we will be trying our hand at making different paper flowers which can be used to decorate our Heathfield Show stall.
7th May 2023:
Heffle WI will be running a stall at the Coronation event at Heathfield Community Centre field. There will be stalls, entertainment, music, food and drink.
23rd May 2023:
Join us for a post-Coronation Heffle party. We will be celebrating royally to mark this momentous occasion. The evening will include a royal quiz, mementos and a crown competition - using only recycled materials - ending with a glass of fizz to toast the new King. So come along and celebrate with us.
27th May 2023:
We are delighted to be running our stall at the Heathfield Show again this year. Come and visit our tent where children can do some craft and there will be a bottle tombola.
27th June 2023:
From sheep to knitting wool.....Carol and Peter Goodman, sheep farmers on the Sussex Downs, will demonstrate the production of yarn on a spinning wheel before letting us 'have a go'.
25th July 2023:
This July marks Heffle WIs 8th birthday and we are celebrating with a special evening for members only. We'll meet up at the Beacon Down Vineyard at Cross in Hand, planted in 2015 by husband and wife team Paul and Al Pippard.
The evening will start with a relaxed tour through the vines with Paul as our guide, and will conclude with a tasting of the wines. There'll be a picnic to follow while we relax and enjoy the fantastic views over the East Sussex countryside.
22nd August 2023:
Painting without brushes, and lots of other water colour techniques. This is definitely a fun, hands on session with demos and guidance from our own tutor Nicky Stoner.
26 September 2023:
Witches, warlocks and Wellingtons - the ritual protection of the home. Why are horseshoes lucky? Do you have a special stone or symbol at the door? Our ancestors used objects to protect themselves from harm, or to bring good luck. Do bring your own special object to the talk, if you feel you can leave your home unprotected for a few hours....... with Dr Janet Pennington.
14th October 2023:
Following the success of our Cake & Coffee Morning last year, we are arranging a similar event at the Union Church hall in Heathfield. More details to follow.
24 October 2023:
Our Annual Meeting will start the evening. Once the formalities are over we'll be judging our annual Bake Off Competition. Will you be able to win the Golden Whisk this year? We'll have time for one of our fun bingo sessions as well.
28 November 2023:
It's that time of year again, for our Christmas have-a-go workshops. As usual it will be a very social evening; having fun while learning some new Christmas crafts. We have lots of ideas to share with some easy ways of making imaginative decorations.
19 December 2023:
( 3rd Tuesday of month to avoid Xmas week)
Christmas party time, with games , fun, food and fizz. It's a 'bring and enjoy' evening with a very social theme. But what will the theme be this year? More about this evening later.
